Με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση των 100 χρόνων από τη Μικρασιατική Καταστροφή, η Πρεσβεία της Ιαπωνίας σε συνεργασία με τον βουλευτή ΠΕ Καβάλας και μέλος της Κοινοβουλευτικής Ομάδας Φιλίας Ελλάδας-Ιαπωνίας κ. Γιάννη Πασχαλίδη, συνδιοργάνωσαν με το Σύλλογο Μικρασιατών Καβάλας, τη Θρακική Εστία Ν. Καβάλας και τη Λέσχη Ποντίων Ν. Καβάλας, εκδήλωση με τίτλο «Tokei Maru 1922-2022: Επέτειος μνήμης των 100 χρόνων από το ταξίδι ενός ιαπωνικού πλοίου στη Σμύρνη», η οποία τέθηκε υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Καβάλας.
Η εκδήλωση ξεκίνησε με την έπαρση της ιαπωνικής και ελληνικής σημαίας και την ανάκρουση των εθνικών ύμνων των δύο χωρών από τη Φιλαρμονική Ορχήστρα του Δήμου Καβάλας. Ακολούθησε επίδειξη παραδοσιακών χορών από μέλη των συνδιοργανωτών συλλόγων με ζωντανή μουσική και παραδοσιακές ενδυμασίες.
Στη συνέχεια, στον εσωτερικό χώρο της Μεγάλης Λέσχης Καβάλας, απηύθυναν χαιρετισμούς ο Πρέσβης της Ιαπωνίας κ. NAKAYAMA Yasunori, ο βουλευτής ΠΕ Καβάλας κ. Γιάννης Πασχαλίδης, ο Δήμαρχος Καβάλας κ. Θεόδωρος Μουριάδης καθώς και η Πρόεδρος του Συλλόγου Μικρασιατών κ. Σοφία Τσίγκου, ο Πρόεδρος της Θρακικής Εστίας κ. Νίκος Τσουμπάκης και ο Πρόεδρος της Λέσχης Ποντίων κ. Μιχάλης Τσουλφίδης. Ακολούθησε η ομιλία της Δρ. Nanako Murata –Sawayanagi σχετικά με το ιαπωνικό εμπορικό πλοίο Tokei Maru, το οποίο λέγεται ότι διέσωσε Έλληνες και Αρμένιους πρόσφυγες στο λιμάνι της Σμύρνης τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1922. Η Δρ Murata, αναφέρθηκε, μεταξύ άλλων, και στα τελευταία αποτελέσματα της έρευνάς της σχετικά με την ταυτότητα του πλοιάρχου. Αμέσως μετά, σε ζωντανή σύνδεση με την Αυστραλία, ακολούθησε διάλεξη του κ. Σταύρου Σταυρίδη, ο οποίος με τη σειρά του έκανε μια ιστορική αναδρομή στα γεγονότα της περιόδου και παρουσίασε τα κομβικά σημεία της δικής του έρευνας σχετικά με το ιαπωνικό πλοίο Tokei Maru. Στο τέλος προβλήθηκε η ταινία κινουμένων σχεδίων μικρού μήκους «Tokei Maru» (2017, 20΄) του Ζάχου Σαμολαδά, με βιντεοσκοπημένο εισαγωγικό χαιρετισμό από τον σκηνοθέτη.
Μετά το πέρας της εκδήλωσης, ο Πρέσβης κ. Nakayama πραγματοποίησε εθιμοτυπική επίσκεψη στον Δήμαρχο Καβάλας κ. Μουριάδη, όπου οι δυο πλευρές αντάλλαξαν απόψεις σχετικά με την περαιτέρω ενίσχυση των διμερών σχέσεων στο μέλλον.
Την επόμενη ημέρα, ο Πρέσβης κ. Nakayama επισκέφτηκε το Μουσείο Προσφυγικού Ελληνισμού και έλαβε μέρος στην τελετή δενδροφύτευσης ιαπωνικής κερασιάς σε κεντρικό σημείο της πόλης, προς τιμήν του ιαπωνικού πλοίου Tokei Maru.
TOKEI MARU 1922-2022: Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the voyage of a Japanese ship, at the Grand Club of Kavala
On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Member of Parliament of Kavala and member of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship between Greece and Japan, Mr. Yannis Paschalides, hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The event was entitled "Tokei Maru 1922-2022: Commemorative Anniversary of the 100 years since the voyage of a Japanese ship to Smyrna,” under the auspices of the Municipality of Kavala.
The event began with the hoisting of the Japanese and Greek flags and the playing of the national anthems of Japan and Greece by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kavala. This was followed by a demonstration of traditional dances by members of the co-organizing clubs with live music and traditional costumes.
Afterwards, the event was transferred to the Great Club of Kavala. There the Ambassador of Japan Mr. NAKAYAMA Yasunori, the MP of Kavala, Mr. Yannis Paschalides, the Mayor of Kavala, Mr. Theodoros Mouriadis as well as the President of the Association of Asia Minor Mrs. Sophia Tsigou, the President of the Thracian Centre Mr. Nikos Tsoumakis and the President of the Pontian Club Mr. Michalis Tsoulfidis, addressed greetings. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Nanako Murata-Sawayanagi on the Japanese merchant ship Tokei Maru, which is said to have rescued Greek and Armenian refugees in the port of Smyrna in September 1922. Dr. Murata, among other things, reported on the latest results of her research into the identity of the captain of the ship. Then, in a live streaming connection to Australia, a lecture was followed by Mr. Stavros Stavridis, who in turn gave a historical review of the events of the period and presented the key points of his own research on the Japanese ship Tokei Maru. Finally, the animated short film "Tokei Maru" (2017, 20') by Zachos Samoladas was shown, with a recorded video introductory speech by the director.
After the event, Ambassador Nakayama paid a courtesy call on the office of Mayor Mouriadis, where the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations in the future. The following day, Ambassador Nakayama visited the Museum of Refugee Hellenism and then participated in the ceremony of planting a Japanese cherry tree at a central point of the city, in honor of the Japanese ship Tokei Maru.
