Στις 26 και 27 Ιουνίου, o Δήμος Λευκάδας οργάνωσε τις «Ημέρες Λευκάδιου Χερν», μια σειρά εκδηλώσεων ιαπωνικού πολιτισμού προς τιμήν του μεγάλου συγγραφέα, στις οποίες παρευρέθηκε ο Πρέσβης κ. Nakayama Yasunori με τη σύζυγό του.
Στις 26 Ιουνίου, στην εκκλησία της Αγίας Παρασκευής όπου βαφτίστηκε ο Λευκάδιος Χερν, πραγματοποιήθηκε τελετή εορτασμού της επετείου της γέννησής του, στην οποία παρευρέθηκαν ο Δήμαρχος Λευκάδας, κ. Καλός, ο βουλευτής ΝΔ του Ν. Λευκάδας, κ. Καββαδάς και ο Πρέσβης κ. Nakayama με τη σύζυγό του. Κατόπιν, ξεναγήθηκαν από τον συλλέκτη έργων του Λευκάδιου Χερν κ. Ευσταθίου, στη μόνιμη έκθεση του Ιστορικού Κέντρου του Λευκάδιου Χερν εντός του Πνευματικού Κέντρου του Δήμου Λευκάδας.
Στη συνέχεια, ακολούθησε τελετή βράβευσης του κ. Ευσταθίου ως Επίτιμου Πολίτη του Δήμου Λευκάδας, για την πολύτιμη συνεισφορά του στο Ιστορικό Κέντρο. Ο δήμαρχος, κ. Καλός ανέφερε χαρακτηριστικά ότι ‘’το υψηλό ενδιαφέρον που παρουσιάζει το κοινό στις μέρες μας για τον Λευκάδιο Χερν οφείλεται στην πρωτοποριακή συνεισφορά του κ. Ευσταθίου, ενώ οι εκδηλώσεις για την επέτειο των γενεθλίων του μεγάλου συγγραφέα διαδραματίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στις σχέσεις μας με τον αδελφοποιημένο Δήμο Shinjuku, στην Ιαπωνία’’. Στη συνέχεια, ο Πρέσβης κ. Nakayama στην ομιλία του, τόνισε την εξαιρετικά σημαντική επιρροή του Lafcadio Hearn στην ιαπωνική κουλτούρα και λογοτεχνία.
Events in honour of Lafcadio Hearn 2021 in the Municipality of Lefkada
On June 26 and 27, the Municipality of Lefkada organized the "Days of Lafcadio Hearn," a series of events of Japanese culture in honour of the great author, attended by Ambassador Nakayama Yasunori and his wife.
On June 26, in the church of Agia Paraskevi, where Lafcadio Hearn was baptized, a ceremony was held to celebrate his birthday, attended by the Mayor of Lefkada, Mr. Kalos, the Member of Parliament for the Municipality of Lefkada, Mr. Kavvadas and the Ambassador Mr. Nakayama with his wife. Afterwards, they were guided by Mr. Efstathiou, the art collector of the works of Lafcadio Hearn, to the permanent exhibition of the Historical Center of Lafcadio Hearn, in the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Lefkada.
An award ceremony was followed, where Mr. Efstathiou received the title Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Lefkada for his valuable contribution to the Historical Center of Lafcadio Hearn. The Mayor, Mr. Kalos, significantly stated that ''the great interest of the public nowadays for Lafcadio Hearn is due to the pioneering contribution of Mr. Efstathiou, while the events celebrating the great writer's birthday play an important role in our relations with Lefkada’s Sister-City, the Municipality of Shinjuku, in Japan.'' Afterwards, the Ambassador, Mr. Nakayama, gave a speech about the extremely important role that Lafcadio Hearn played in Japanese culture and literature.
